Homeowners spruiking up their homes during isolation are behind a spike in demand for home styling services.

Brisbane interior stylists and home improvement stores such as Bunnings reported an increase in inquiries during the pandemic restrictions, and the latest retail sales data reveals a rise in spending on household furnishings.

With the relaxation of restrictions and the return of open homes and auctions, some homeowners have also been spending their time getting properties ready for sale — spending thousands of dollars on improvements or hiring a professional property stager.

Brisbane property stylist Maree Piwinski said she had noticed a huge increase in inquiries from clients interested in redecorating their homes since the onset of COVID-19.

Independent research, commissioned by Bunnings, reveals two in three (64 per cent) of Aussies have been tackling a DIY job once a month, with gardening, decluttering, painting and landscaping topping the list of activities since the start of COVID-19.

When it comes to gardening, the research found two in five people were planning to spruce up their gardens in the coming months.

Bunnings’ DIY paint range has also been popular, especially transformation paints for kitchen benchtops and cupboards.

When it comes to trends in home styling,Ms Piwinski said calm and natural hues and texture-layering using timbers, rattan, jute and greenery were popular.

A few simple changes could add thousands of dollars in value to a property.

It’s incredible how spending money on a fresh coat of paint inside and out, clearing gardens, maintaining gutters, mending repairs to decks and decluttering can make a huge difference to a home
